Speaking of rare, that’s one of the nice things about minis. If you can’t have the full sized version... Here is a commander’s star to the Hannoverian Ernst August Order. Over the years, I have seen only two real ones (yes, this one has been faked too), one in a private collection and the other in the museum in Hannover.

Hi GregM,
Unfortunately, this Black Eagle mini is not attributed. As to your point of ca. twenty awards during WWI, ironically there is a current thread on the other forum which is dedicated to this point. Although I have pretty good evidence of Otto von Below having been awarded one on 15 November 1915, nothing else has been come to light so far.
Although meant with humor, I have to say that I appreciate your comment about showing off. I honestly hesitated posting this piece for that very reason. In the end, I decided to go ahead with it so that other collectors can see that such things do exist. In reviewing this thread, there are several minis that I find to be very very impressive; but then I go more for workmanship and rarity than the “high end”. Most importantly, Greg, it’s about the minis, not the collection or collector.
Thanks and best wishes,

Wild Card. Where on earth do you find these incredible pieces.? That Balck Eagle Order is over the top! I am so glad that you are posting them. I know I am not the only one filling my photo files for what in some cases are the only examples of these minis I have seen. Simply incredible. Please show off some more. Steve

Hi Regular122,
I apologize for not having answered your post #216 from last month; but a few things seem to have gotten by me and this was one of them.
I can’t say that now days there is any one particular source for minis. Back in the ‘80’s and early ‘90’s Dorotheum, Andreas Thies and Tim Eriksen were about the best; but in recent years they just are not as plentiful as in the past. It did not hurt that back then there were not as many people interested in them as there are now.
GregM,
Thank you for the kind words. Here are a couple of little guys that I got just a couple of years ago that are quite out of the norm. I had never seen anything like them before which makes me kind of suspicious. Have you ever seen any of this series?
Best wishes to you both,

WC,
I remember seeing some crazy attachment on a '97 centennial but cannot for the life of me find the pic. It was not a campaign bar, which sometimes gets thrown onto a centennial on a 1870 medal spange. But it was an odd device something like the one on your yellow ribbon. Sorry I cannot find the pic.
Those wreaths look very very much alike though on the two ribbons and raise the same cautions with me as well. Steve
