Yes, i have understand the discussion. Discussion are allways good and important but I think that we never really come to found a result because the base is missing. The base is the former soldier. Only he can tell when he got this cross.. So i think !

Seems like a big deal made out of nothing. The EK1 is good. It's great. It's undoubtably made prior to April, 1945.

It does not IMHO show a repair as the one below does IMHO.

So who cares when it was made? I think it was a later cross manufacture or put together due to the hinge configuration. It's an opinion, take it or leave it, it doesn't detract at all from the cross.

Far fewer crosses were made after WWI. That's also a fact. The box and case may be leftover stock period to WWI. The hinge I believe is simply a more 30's style.

Believe what you will, we have various opinions here none of which alter the value or desirability of the cross. Enjoy it.

It is whatever it is. It's wartime with a hinge configuration we're used to on later awards. When it was made, who cares? You have opinions, make of them what you will.

The authenticity of the cross, case & box are not in question. The period of construction is & I for one would like to know more info, I figure this is the place to learn & items are posted for discussion.

The catch on the one I posted was to illustrate a repair on the same type of cross that I've seen on period pieces in order to give a time frame.

There's no anger or distress in my post. I thought there was an undue rise in superiority of opinion. My only being, it's genuine. And time of manufacture is in question. The pin/hinge are very similar to 30's manufactured decorations. They are not in my opinion similar to any award WWI decoration. It is found on some WWI EK1's. I've never seen it on any other WWI decoration leading me to believe since it looks so much like other WWII hinge/pins, it must be of that era. But bottom line, it's real...
