No idea who made it, but the width of the outer edges of the frame makes it look kinda 3rd Reichy. What are the dimensions of the cross?

I don't know the maker, but I have one that looks similar and is definatly
sized like a 1939 cross.

Hi Guys:
I am new to Imperial, and I am considering purchasing this EK-I. It is on E-Stand. Could you give me your opinions as to originality and price? The seller wants $185.00, which would be a great price for a 1939.
What does it mean when one of the posters observes that it is of 1939 spec.s/dimensions? Is this a problem?

Hi Chris, 1914 EKI's were made during the Third Reich era as extra or replacement peices that a WW1 Iron Cross winner could buy. The size will measure 44mm. (I have one of these Third Reich era crosses myself.)

Price is ok.

As always Ade, thanks for the response. Are these less collectable than "original" Imperial era EK's, or do they have the same quality and desirability in the community of collectors? I don't have an Imperial EK-I, and was wanting to put a nice representative one in my collection. I have several 1939 EK-Is and IIs.

Hi Chris, I suppose it depends on what you are collecting?

If you are a pure '14-'18 collector, then maybe they not as desireable as a WW1 produced example? But if you are collecting the EK in all it's forms then I would say it is a must.

I was lucky as I was given mine as a gift from a friend in Canada so I did not have to think about it other than saying a big "Thank-you"!

Personally, I would go for it, plus a 1914 -18 made one too, and for good measure, finish off with a 1957 example too

I don't think she'd be too thrilled with collecting EKs in all their forms. She thinks I have too many as it is! (Ah, what does she know?)

I would offer that the backing plate that goes between the EK and the nut is missing, as usually these did not have just a small nut like that to hold them on, but I could be wrong. If it is missing the plate, you will not find one. And with a decent screwback selling for $250 to 300 in a blink, this may be why it hasn't yet sold? Tony

Thanks Tony, I agree. I've gone to Ken Greenfield's site to look at screwbacks, and ALL of them are three piece. I factored in the missing part in deciding to purchase at this price. Do you think this one is a WW-II 1914 EK?

Chris, do a search here for "screwback" or even "EK1" and you will see how different the shape is between the Third Reich pieces and the Imperial pieces. This one has that fat shape typical of Third reich era. Personally, I think a 1914 EK made post-1918 to 1945 is a part of an Imperial collection.
