    Photo of Wurttemberger Dragoon

    Wie gehts:

An photo of a dragoon from the 7th company / 3rd squadron of D.R. 26, dated in mid-January of 1915. Of interest are his weapons and his helmet. As a cavalryman he is using a Kar 98 AZ, and also still is using his M1889 sword at this point in the war. His helmet is uncovered, and the wurttemberg crown order starburst is shown on the plate.

A closeup of the helmet plate. It also appears that he is wearing chinscales in the field.

      Lorraine

      Hi Dave,

interesting photo. Presumably taken in Lorraine where the regiment as part of the 7th Cavalry Division was engaged in positional warfare in the spring of 1915.

I don't understand the reference to the "7th Company" of the the 3rd Squadron?. A German cavalry regiment normally had 5 squadrons. A company is not a sub-unit of a cavalry squadron.

      Regards
      Glenn

        Hey Glenn:
You are correct on both statements. D.R.26 was part of the 7.K-D. in Lorriane in early 1915 and there are no "company" distictions within a cavalry regiment (or squadron). Thanks for replying to my thread.

        Dave
