    Baden 114th Inf Pics

My grandfather brought a Nazi photo album home from WW2. The owner of the album was a Major in the 114th Baden Inf in WW1. He was a party official during the TR. The album runs from around 1900-1943 and has 110 pics or so. I'm posting the 8 WW1 era pics here.

This young man was born in 1883 in Bruschsal, Baden, and was the son of a judge. Upon completing schooling, he joined the military.

Here he is in his military uniform. I assume he started and ended his military career with the Baden Inf. but I'm not positive. Is this a Baden uniform?

The photos have been cut down so the text on the back is disturbed. I hope Gerdan can translate to English some of the writing.

Here he is on the left. By this time in the war, he has won the EK1. He also received the Zahringer Lion Knight with swords and was wounded with a 50% disability. The man in the middle looks like he is from India. Who could he be?

Here he is mounted. This does not look like a wartime settting. Maybe before the war?

Text. I can read "Dobery TUnnel" at the bottom.

Another from the trenches. What is the man holding? It looks like a homemade device of some sort. I think I can see 2 railroad spikes tied to this thing.

Text. I can read "Loos" in two places and I assume this pic is from that battle.

This is the commander of the 114th Inf, PLM winner Hans von Sydow. I'd guess this is a post war pic. He looks like a mean old war horse!

Text. All I can read is "von Sydow". Is the first word his rank?

And who was the Major that owned this album? It is Walter Buch. Reichsleiter and Chief Justice of the Nazi Party Court and SS Obergrüppenführer (honorary).
                            Enjoy! Ammersee

                              Ammersee,
In the trench the soldier is holding aloft an early grenade circa 1915. Often called a paddle or hairbrush grenade by the allies. Really nasty things with a big wallop meant to clear dugouts, bunkers or machinegun nests.

                              Eric
