Verdienstkreuz für Kriegshilfe, or is it?

    Verdienstkreuz für Kriegshilfe, or is it?

    I've always assumed the second ribbon [from the left] on this bar was the Prussian Verdienstkreuz für Kriegshilfe, however I've seen one website (www.medals.lava.pl) that shows this same ribbon being used for a Prussian Kronenorden 3. u. 4 Klasse am Sanitätsband. Not being able to find any other references to the latter ribbon, could someone help shed some light on this?

    Hi, with that combination of awards it should be the "Kreuz für Kriegshilfsdienst". The same ribbon was used for some other prussian awards too, like the Allgemeine Ehrenzeichen and Kronenorden.

        This ribbon was first used for the Crown order or the Allgemeines Ehrenzeichen in the 1870/71 war. It was called Erinnerungsband (memorial ribbon) and awarded for war aid and red cross merits. In WW1 the War aid cross was instituted and the old ribbon was re-instituted for it. So without a 1870 war medal on a bar it is definetly a war aid cross.
