That is a hell of a deal...nice cross! Never seen the Imperials mounted like that (i'm new to this section! lol) very cool. Wish I would have seen it! I am looking at getting an EKII 1870 and the one I found is about 500 bucks after shipping and all...this would have been way cheaper

Yes Ryan, I think someone got a great deal. But don't be too quick
to judge. The cross you are working on is a very nice, textbook example
of a Type A 1870. The Type A crosses are thought to be the earliest made
1870s and are considered to be the awarded crosses. I am not taking
anything away form the wideframe 1870s. They are a beautiful cross and
very collectable in their own right but IMO the Type A (especially one in
good condition) with it's high relief crown and sharp date and "W" details
is the best off all the Iron Cross series. 1813-1957.

      Back to the one posted.
This one has a very nice clean frame and nicely detailed core. The unusual
style ribbon make this one, plus the oaks and overall look of the setup makes one a great addition to any collection. Too bad it didn't end up in mine

The price is good, but not an absolute steal, to be honest. It's a 1900-ish piece. The one you have your eye on, Ryan, is a Type A award type. It's a whole different ballgame.
        Best regards,

          Trevor,

Ya, I didn't realize when I wrote that, that wideframes are 1900s. I read the type A and B article but Greg re-linked it and showed me that the Jubilee crosses are newer than the Type As.

Gotta keep my eye on the grand prize!
