1914 Godet

Hey all. This is a link to a Godet on the Imperial e-stand. http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=415189

I was wondering if the Godet is painted or an earlier "Blackened" core? Being new to Imperials i'm not sure how you spot the difference but my gut feeling is that this one is painted.

Can someone explain and either confirm my thoughts or prove me wrong? Many thanks ahead of time!
