The 242. Infanterie-Division history refers to an incident during the fighting near Vouziers on 21 October 1918:

"Infanterie-Regiment 127, corps reserve until midday, is thrown forward battalion by battalion to the divisions fighting on the front. At 3rd Battalion, which is to be deployed behind the Oldershauser height, a shell hits a group receiving orders and puts 7 officers out of action."
This is the only reference I can find that fits the circumstances of Stumpf being wounded.

McCulloh, could you check the date given for when Hauptmann Stumpf was wounded, please?

The 127. Infanterie-Regiment history, which unfortunately I do not have, ought to contain more information and probably a picture of him.

        /David

I checked,pg. 633, it says the above 11.15.18-but it is obviously a printing error.

            McCulloh,

Thanks for checking that. I'll try to find a copy of the regimental history for more details and possibly a picture.

The division started withdrawing to cross the Maas on army orders received during the night of 1/2 Novenber and didn't fully disengage until 11 November, when orders were received at 9.50 a.m. that all hostilities were to cease at 11.50 a.m. Stumpf very nearly made it to the end.

            /David
