    U-Boat Badge

    Hi,

Just posting what I believe is a 30s type badge.

An interesting badge for sure Gary. Assuming the "G" is for Godet, it differs slightly from the EK1 mark. I'd start by comparing the reverse hardware with known Godet products.

Maybe not the same G, but the hardware setup looks the same.

My gut doesn't like it either.

Here's one I used to own. I never got comfortable with it and traded it back to the dealer a few years ago.

Hard to say. Gut feeling mainly. The badge was imo not die struck, not in itself a bad sign as neither are the "Schott" badges. Lots of heavy hand filing from memory. The reverse appeared very "smooth" with slightly rounded edges - the latter again pointing to casting. It was the hinge, pin, marking and finish which were the main things that never made me comfortable though. It was sold as a Godet, but the small G does match the "G"s found on EKs, so that always rankled anyway. I could never actually tell if it had finish on it - if it did, it was plated (which would be unusual). It certainly was not fire-gilt, which I'd almost have expected from a pre-WW2 gilt item like this (not to say everything gilded pre-WW2 should have been fire-gilded of course).
