    EKI and EK2

Recently picked up these two EKs.
The EK2 is mounted with a Hindenburg cross, the EK is marked KO and the Hindenburg cross is marked W&l.
    M.
Is the way they are mounted unusual?

The EKI looks like it is also marked KO.

Your opinions would be highly appreciated on both crosses.

    Many thanks, Gareth

It all looks good to me. KO is the most common maker of both classes of these awards. The EK2 looks like it has one of the nicer detailed cores that KO used. EK2 and Hindenburg two place medal bar is also very common. However, would any collection be complete without the items shown here?

                  Steve,
                  Thanks for your reply.
Regarding the medals is it usual for the medals to be mounted on hooks like this.

                  Many thanks, Gareth

These parade mounts were of varying designs and were sometimes even homemade. The hooks on yours look like they may have originally been tucked inside the ribbons, but like I said, construction varies. Sometimes the hooks are on the rear and the medals detach easily.

Yes, these examples look fine to me. The hooks are not that unusual, and this type of mounting is very common. The original owner wanted the bar so that he could both wear the item as a ribbon bar or as a medal bar depending on the circumstances. The hooks were meant to be hidden under ribbons as well as the medal's ribbon ring.

I think if you try you could tuck that hook and first ring of the medal under the ribbon. But be careful. The 70 year old ribbon isn't as elastic as it once was and probably even shrank a little. But it is worth it IMO, it looks more attractive.

A nice Jacobs Market pick up on the bar! Did you get the EK1 there too?

It appears i may have competition
