The reverse which is marked near the bottom. I can't quite tell what the marking is but looks like it could be KC. What are your thoughts?

I'd suggest it's a KO. The pin and hinge certainly look the same. The numerals look unusual to me though. Is it just my eyes?

It seems to be a fine and correct "KO" EK1.

Forgot to ask, who is the maker KO?

              Thanks,

                Todd,
KO is Königliches Münzamt Abteilung Orden (Stuttgart), and this maker produced officially-awarded pieces.

Doesn't that pin catch look like a 30's cross?

Not really, why do you think that? I had quite a few KO crosses with exact same catch.

i thought the numerals, esp the "9" looked a little different, but
like the cross and had seen the hinge/pin bfore on KO's.

looks like someone polished the bejesus out of it!

Here is a little trick, if an EK has been cleaned or polished before you got it (we assume!) place it in a window that faces south so that it gets sun all day for about a month, then flip it around. The sun accelerates the tarnishing process of real silver dramatically. Tony http://www.kaisersbunker.com

Gas heated homes also accelerate tarnishing.
