    Stew

Sometimes vets removed pins and hooks etc, prior to giving badges to their kids to play 'war' with, this stopped them sticking themselves accidently etc. I have seen this locally a few times. Also had an old boy tell me this many moons ago.

        Hi Mike Kenny,
replying to your recent post where you circled an area for me to examine to see if there was a faintly struck "W.S"
I note a scratch in the area but cannot see a W.S.
thanks guys for your helpful comments.

            Hi Stew,

Nothing apparent from those newer pics. I have a WS example that is so faint stamped (the W.S. letters are very fine/thin to begin with) you can only see it if the cross is turned a certain way, hence my persistence.

I note now there is a big ding in the frame on the reverse of the cross. An unusual location, so probably post-war damage of some sort, but it may explain the missing catch.

Interesting to note there is a scratch in line with the hinge, indicating the hinge pin may have been punched/pushed out deliberately.

            Regards
            Mike

              Hi Stew,

Here is an S-W marked EK1 that I think is pretty much exactly what yours used to look like:

              Best regards,
