    Interesting Generals Portraits from Priesdorff

    Hi Imperials,
    I´m just browsing through the Priesdorff volumes and want to show You some interesting Portraits.

    Ewald Christian Leopold von KLEIST has a quite big medal bar, 16 place is not the smallest!! He took part in everything from 1848 to 1870. Lived 1824-1910, went 1889 zD. Last position Commanding General of I.Army Corps. Around the neck the plm, a Russian Stanislaus 2<SUP>nd</SUP> class with Crown and Mecklenburg Wendish Crown Commander, later upgraded to a Grand cross with golden crown. On the medal bar a EK2 1870 (had also EK1 1870), Red Eagle 4 with X, Red Eagle 3 with bow and swords on the ring (later upgraded to Grand Cross with Oaks, Swords on Ring and Brilliants, Crown Order 3 (later upgraded to 2nd with star), DA25, Düppel-Cross 1864, Alsen-Cross 1864, War Medal 1870, Cross 1866 Königgrätz, War Medal 1864, Commemorative Medal 1848, Austrian Iron Crown 3<SUP>rd</SUP> class with war decoration, Mecklenburg Military merit cross 2 (had also 1<SUP>st</SUP> class), Mecklenburg Strelitz Military merit cross, Swedish Sword Order Knight 1<SUP>st</SUP> class, later he held also a Hessen Philipp Order Grand cross with X. He was promoted MajGen 02.09.1873 M, LtGen 03.02.1880, Gen of Infantry 18.09.1886 H<O</O

    Albert Hermann Graf zu LYNAR (I´m not sure, it might be that the 1<SUP>st</SUP> Prussian General Rochus Quirinus Graf von Lynar was his ancestor) has a interesting Russian combo. He lived 1827-1887, went 1882 zD last position Cdr 28.Cavalry Brigade, He held Red Eagle 2 with oaks, Crown Order 1, EK1 1870, Johanniter, DA25, war medal 1870, Cross 1866 Königgrätz, Commemorative medal 1848, Baden Zähringer Lion Commander with Star, Austrian Iron Crown 2<SUP>nd</SUP> class, and his amazing Russian awards are Russian Georg 4<SUP>th</SUP> class worn directly behind the EK (this regulation is remaining still from the war against Napoleon), Russian Wladimir 3<SUP>rd</SUP> class, Russian Anna 2<SUP>nd</SUP> class with Brilliants, Russian Anna 2<SUP>nd</SUP> class with X and Crown (yes, two same classes of the same Order), Russian Stanislaus 1<SUP>st</SUP> class, Russian Stanislaus 2<SUP>nd</SUP> class with Crown. He was promoted MajGen 20.09.1876 J, characterized LtGen 19.01.1882

      Rudolf Franz Kurt von REX is shown here with a interesting old style Medal bar. Straight top and bottom of the bar and the decorations hanging out to one side. Lived 1817-1892, went 1874 zD as Cdr 32th Infantry Brigade, held Red Eagle 3 with bow and swords on the ring, Red Eagle 4 with X, Crown Order 3 with X, EK1 1870, DA25, Düppel Cross 1864, Alsen Cross 1864, war medal 1870, Cross 66 Main Army, war medal 1864, Commemorative medal 1848, Austrian Iron Crown 2 with war decoration. was promoted MajGen 18.01.1871 R, characterized LtGen 15.10.1874<O</O

        Amand Ernest Eugen von RUVILLE was the earliest I found with a 2 row medal bar. He lived 1816-1884, went 1869 aD as Cdr Infantry Regiment 22, was in the war 1870/71 Commander of Amiens and Nancy, he had Red Eagle 3 with bow and X improperly worn before his EK2, EK2 1870, Johanniter, DA25, war medal 1870, Cross 1866 Königgrätz, Commemorative medal 1848, Mecklenburg Wendish Crown Commander, Mecklenburg War meritr cross 1, was promoted characterized MajGen 12.08.1869

              I have never seen an Imperial two rows before!

              All the scans work for me... but then I can see medal bars in the dark, buwahahahah!

              The St George immediately following Iron Cross remained in effect until the end of the Second Reich. Even World War One was seen as just an "unfortunate interlude among the cousins" that the bonds of history would surely fix...

                    Hermann Wilhelm Graf von WARTENSLEBEN-CAROW, General of Cavalry, lived 1826-1921, had so many big gongs that he only wears his highest Prussian ones, He had the SAO, plm with oaks, Red Eagle Grand cross with oaks and swords on the ring, a ultra-rare Red Eagle 1 with enamel ribbon of the Crown Order 1 with oaks and swords on the ring (this enamel ribbon was a short-living extra-sign that the holder of the RAO had before the KO1 or the contrary that a KO1 recipient had before a RAO1, Red Eagle 3 with 3 times white-striped ribbon and X, Red Eagle 4 with X, so he coulöd wear 4 different classes of the same order the same time!!! a EK1 70, Johanniter, XXV, 1870/71 medal, 1866 cross, 1864 medal , 1848 medal, Bavarian military merit order grand cross, Mecklenburg Crown grand cross, Saxon Albert 2 with star, Saxon-Ernestine House order grand cross, Schaumburg-Lippe Military merit medal, French Legion of Honor knight, Luxembourg Order of the Oak crown grand cross, Austrian Leopold grand cross with war decoration of the 3<SUP>rd</SUP> class, Russian Anna 1, promoted GM 02.09.1873 G, GL 01.11.1879 B, GdK 18.09.1886 G AND sloppy sloppy sloppy added his just awarded Centenary medal!<O</O

                              Finally I had some time to continue.

                              Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph Ernst Gottlob von FALLOIS, 1801-1867, was the earliest I found with a trapezoid ribbon bar. He had a Red Eagle 2 with oaks, a XXV and the 1848 medal. He commanded the 23<SUP>rd</SUP> Infantry Brigade and went zD as char.GL 23.07.61
