Happy Holidays Gentlemen,
This is an item I have had for many years in my collection. It was purchased from a reputable dealer in the Phoenix, Arizona area, Mr. Walter Dudgeon. Walter and I have done much business over the years and I trust him explicitely as a dealer. Perhaps many of you know him as he does the national show circut.
This was reported to have come from the estate of a German General Officer, nothing further.
The body of the cross is a black velvet material and the crown, W, and 1914 are all done in bullion wire, the white material which represents the Iron portion of this cross is a very high quality cotton thread almost silky to the touch. It was obviously worn on a uniform at one time as it bears stitching holes around the entire cross.
I would like to hear your opinions on this piece and hopefully some of you have similar items which you can post for comparison.
