    A Braunschweiger non-combatant from Württemberg?

Just got this nice medal-bar with the EKII (maker "Wa" in the big and "g" or "6" in the small ring), Braunschweig War Merit Cross on the very rare non-combatant ribbon, Prussian Red Cross Medal 3. Class and Württemberg Long Service Decoration for 9 years (early silver-plated type). I suspect this was a Sanitäter (medic). But the big question is, how did he get awards from Braunschweig but none from Württemberg (he was from Württemberg because of the Long Service Dec.)? Why did he got the War Merit Cross on non-combatant ribbon? There are two possibilites, he was never at the front or he saw action but because of his status as medic he was handled by Braunschweig as a non-combatant. This depends on the regulations for the cross/ribbons. Someone here with an idea?

Back. Btw. the ribbons on the ribbon-bar are folded original wide ribbons.

Hello, It looks like the second decoration is a Wurttemberger Bravery Medal ribbon that someone attached the Braun. cross in lieu of the Wurtt. medal.

Nope, it has dark blue stripes (maybe a little bit difficult to see in the scan), but it is the correct ribbon for Braunschweig.

This is a better scan of the ribbon where you can see the blue stripes:

              Hi Jens,

thats quite odd, a native Württemberger who got nothing from his own country but 2 decorations from other states. Interesting!

              Best regards

                Yep, I have two theories.

1.) He was a medic and got both awards in the field but got the Braunschweiger because of his status as "Sanitäter" (= non-combatant).

2.) He was an officer/doctor and got the awards at home including an ultrarare EKII on the black-white ribbon for war merits at home.

For a simple San-Uffz at home I think these are too much awards, so it may be one of the two theories above depending on the regulations for the Braunschweig cross...

ok, a neck decoration would be to much and a breast award, too.
but does someone know, if a member of the house of brunswick was comander from a württembergian regiment/unit - and so the wearer got it because he was at the right time at the right place.
or he served a time during the war in an brunswick regiment.
