    I hate these combonations---

Why is it when we see these combinations (Ek/oaks/1914bar) more often
    then not they are BAD.

The 9th bead is glowing like a neon sign. The oaks has the non-sarif type
numbers on it and the bar is anybodys guess.

There might not be an original piece in this setup

I truly don't think there is one original piece there. These must be manufactured somewhere as sets, they are so common.

I would really love to find an original set-up like this or at least one made
from period pieces, but no matter how much make up you put on a pig, it's
still a pig. Same with these things. No matter what bobbles you hang off
a 9th bead fake, the damn thing is still fake in the end.

Yeah, I guess so. Haven't people ever heard of these kind of forums?

Seems they only have time to go online and bid, not to conduct research.

Hi Trev, forums are easier to miss than may seem obvious to you mate...it's a pity but true! I for one am very happy and grateful for finding the forums after many many years of collecting...I learn something new every day, meet many many good folk like yourself and have a lot of fun!
                        Cheers, Steve

Unfortunately, streptile, more than you know, the answer is no.
There are a lot of collectors out there who do not know of these forums.
Eventually, one way or another, they eventually arrive.

Personally, I began collecting in the late seventies and had the good
fortune of developing close friendships with some of the great men
of collecting Imperial German orders and decorations. The interesting
thing is that all of these men died within, roughly, the past five years and,
unfortunately for us, not one of them ever participated on a forum -
they just didn’t know. I found out about the forums (this one being
the first) after they had died.

Be kind my friends, write it off to someone who just didn’t know
better; and make an effort to inform other collectors, especially
                          “newbies”, of the forums.

                          Thank you,

                          Wild Card

Now might be the time for me to dig out Hitler's missing testicle from a shoe box and sell it on e-bay.
