    Godet 1870 EK2

Here's something new; a G marked 1870 EK2. Has all the attributes of a Godet. I've not seen to many 1870 EK2 with ring markings, but we learn something every day. Same seller has an 1813 EK1 "1830's issue" which I do NOT like. It looks too much like the two 1813 EK1 copies shown earlier on this forum. Any comments?

--Yeah, Doug. I just posted the EK1 on another thread before I saw here that you'd been there.
--I am suspicious of 1870 2's with ring stamps, but I'll go along and say that this one is an exception to me. I can see prestigious Godet throwing a little 'G' in there to let people know that it's theirs. BTW, what other stamps have you seen?

      Bill,
The only other ring stamp I've seen is on an 1870 I own. It's stamped KO. The core is very high relief, deep oval crown opening, etc. typical of 1870's. Most folks seem to believe KO only existed after 1914, but mine is a high quality piece that would rate right up there with any 1870 as far as quality and detail goes. I guess the mint could have been making 1870's after 1914 (veterans would be in their 60's by then).

--I agree, they almost certainly would have made them after 1914. As you say, the vet's would still have been around to have them.

After receiving better photos of the EK1 on eBay form the seller, I like it more than I did at first. The loops are a heavier gauge than Bill or my 1813's, which is a positive sign. There does appear to be some handwork to the frame. This effect could be faked, but this may be a good one. Hard to tell until one holds it in one's hand.
