    Hi,

    ok, I'll try:

On the neck the Black Eagle Order with breaststar.
The star to the right looks like the saxon Albrechtsorden.
There is also a jubilee or long service schnalle.

    Medal bar:
    EKII 1870
Red Eagle 4. class w/swords. Early type with smooth arms
    ??? medal
Red Eagle 3. class with bow
    Long Service
    Kriegsdenkmuenze 1870 with one bar
    Koeniggraetz or Dueppel cross
    ??? medal
    Centenar medal

The one between the RAO's could be an Allgemeines, and the 2nd last the 1864KDM. Considering the wearer, could one of the Bruststerne be a Schaumburg-Lippe Hausorden?

While we're on the subject, here's a Württemberger Geeral z.K. with a fair rack and some empty loops. To make it more interesting, who is he?

I'm including the back of the card in the hope that Rick L. can get a clue from the chicken tracks.

Is it possible that the Red Eagle third class is with Bow, crown and swords on the ring? If the 4th has swords its possible, I think.. Andreas Schulze Ising's page says however only 9 were issued.

            Rick L. a little help?

              Dan,

in the 1900 Rangliste Generalleutnant Leopold Ritter Hentschel von Gilgenheimb is shown as having the Red Eagle third class with Bow, crown and swords on the ring as well as the 4th class with swords.

                Tom,

He looks very much like His Majesty King Wilhelm II of Württemberg. That appears to be a Grand Cross of the Württemberg Militär-Verdienstorden at his throat.

Glenn thanks for the confirmation. I'm glad to think I'm starting to recognize pieces.

Also I think that is the King of Wurtemburg too.
                  Cheers,
                  Dan Cole

Thanks, Carl. that makes sense. The Eichenlaub to his EK but no Centenärmedaille would make it right around his 50th birthday. Right, the neck piece is probably a Grosskreuz of the MVO. There are 3-4 bars on his 70/71KDM. Now what about the rest of them?

Yes, that's King Wilhelm II of Würrtemberg. That same postcard photograph appears in Neal W. O’Connor's "Aviation Awards of Imperial Germany in World War I And the Men Who Earned Them– Volume IV: Aviation Awards of the Kingdom of Würrtemberg." O'Connor describes as follows: Grand Cross of the Order of the Würrtemberg Crown (on left breast with sash of order over shoulder); Grand Cross of the Würrtemberg Military Merit Order (at neck); and the lead-off medal on his bar being the 1870 EK II with 25-year oakleaf (note campaign medal for that war with several clasps as well).

                      Regards,
                      Shawn

                        Thank You for Your replies.

                        The next one???

                        This time a saxon.

Note the very rare Albrecht grand cross with swords on the ring and the commanders cross of St. Henry order around his neck.

                        Best greetings

                        Daniel

                          Daniel,

I very much suspect that this pre war photograph shows General der Infanterie Karl D'Elsa wearing the Grand Cross of the Saxon Verdienstorden at his throat and not the commanders cross 2nd class of the St. Henry order which he was awarded on the 3rd of May 1915. The two orders are very similar in shape and design.

                          Regards
                          Glenn

                            Hi Glenn,

I think You are right. Sorry for my mistake.

                            Best Greetings

                              Hi Daniel,

the general is pictured in the uniform of the Saxon 1st (Leib) Grenadier-Regiment Nr.100 of which he was appointed à la Suite on the 15th of January 1914. I think it is therefore likely the picture was taken between then and July 1914. He had commanded the regiment as a colonel from 14th April 1898 until 19th September 1900. He was awarded the PLM on the 1st of September 1916 as the commanding General of Armee-Abteilung A, retired as a charakter (brevet) Generaloberst and died on the 20th of July 1922.

                              Best regards
                              Glenn
