Very nice Prussian infantry officer's helmet in beautiful condition. I'm no expert, but I'd guess 1,000 to 1,500 Euros, or perhaps more due to condition.

I have to believe someone refurbished the leather. That would make me just too jealous that it stayed that pristine all these years and mine has not.

Very nice helmet, a great find indeed.

I do not think the exterior has been refinished at all. Helmets in this condition are entirely possible to find, if they've been taken care of, as this one has.

Is this helmet a fibre body helmet, or a leather body helmet? Just curious. Look inside, pull back the liner a bit, and see if it is a leather body helmet, or a fibre/fiber body helmet. My guess from your pics is that it's the leather body helmet style. (the fibre/fiber body helmet interior is usually black in color, and has a bit of a rough surface to the look/touch. The leather body helmet usually is a tan/light brown in color inside the lining when you pull the lining back a bit to take a peek, and is entirely smooth in texture.)

Usually the fibre/fiber body helmets can be found in this pristine condition, but it is harder to find the leather body helmets in this condition, but not impossible. The fibre/fiber body helmets were actually an early form of fiberglass, and are easier to take care of.

Great fire-gilting on the parts, that's harder to find nice than the body condition, in my opinion. So many times the fire-gilting has worn off, or has been polished off, or has darkened in color to a dull brass color. This one is pristine.

Value wise in the ever failing U.S. Dollar is approximately $1,500 to maybe $1,800, similar to what Mike says in Euros. The Euro is now worth approximately 1.5 dollar, which makes it exceptionally lopsided, downright impossible for a Dollar-based collector to compete w/a Euro based collector, unless the US based collector is really willing to pay thru the nose for something.

Again, a really great find, congratulations!
