Advise Needed

I am looking for some advise/insight from some of the experienced members of this forum, maybe just some general thoughts.
I started perusing this forum about a year ago, and I must admit that I am fascinated with the imperial awards. Of special interest are the Prussian awards. I have read all I can find on the awards and have red up on Prussian history, and have actually made two trips to eastern Russia to see where my family originated from. I am now considering collecting some of the awards.
My collection currently consists of TR awards & daggers. I only collect items I truly enjoy. And they will stay with me until the bitter end.
My wife or children, none of whom have any interest in this stuff will have to dispose of the collection eventually. I know that there is a good market for the TR stuff. But I am wondering how easy it will be to dispose of the higher Prussian orders, which are right up there in price. There seems to be much more interest in Europe than north America?

In the end this will not likely influence what I collect, but it is a consideration since a collection can amount to a substantial investment.

you sell world wide

you can contact German dealers who will give you +-75 % off the street value
fore the item you have ,but buy it all in one time .

you can contact German auction houses and sell there .
(the outcome depending off the bidding mentality)


you can contact individual collectors who are active on WAF
and present them to them, and work out a deal
(they will be happy to help)


Europe is the place to be .
WAF unites all country's

make sure that you're wife ( family ) has good instructions what to do in case you're not being there .
so they will enjoy the full profit off what you collected .

Wolfgang, I specialize in Prussian and Saxon orders, and I think that detailed cataloguing of your items, with photos and descriptions, is very important, not only for your own records, but for your survivors if you die. How many times have we heard of collections being disposed of badly, or simply thrown in the dust bin by next of kin? As for disposing of your items, that will never be a problem if you have a good eye and collect quality material.

I have to agree with the above two comments. In fact, and it has been a cliche' for decades but is really true with the internet -the world is getting smaller.

Geography isn't a real factor anymore with selling, or buying.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the disposition of your collection, IF you leave instructions to your family on WHO to contact or WHAT website to sell them on. And let them know what are ballpark prices are for your items.
