    My first "Type A"

For a long time I have been interested in the 1870 iron crosses and I have done hours upon hours of studying pictures and books and forums and have been involved with countless discussions both on the open forum and through PMs concerning 1870s. Yet I have never actually owned a Type"A" 1870. (Lack of funds has put a real crimp in my collecting lately)

I came across this one at a show but was not able to buy it however I did
take the owners name. A month later I make a call and we decide on a fair
    price and this arrives.--------

It's not in the greatest shape. Some rust to the core and the ring has been
resoldered but the details are crisp, the ribbon appears to be original and
a repaired jump ring is common on these.

Still a sweet cross Greg. You can't beat the 1870s for crisp and beautiful details.

Great cross with lots of character. A nice addition to your already super collection. You are right about the ring repair, it is common on these. Often it is seen with a small band of metal folded over the repair. I was just driving across town wondering where and when I will be able to find and afford one of these.

A very nice cross. Agree with Don - hard to beat the 1870's for detail
