I'm only learning about the 1870 and associated items, but from what I've read about these, and from viewing photos of original pieces, these look like they may be good.
However, as I say I'm still learning about these so hopefully some others, with more experience and knowledge, will add their comments.
I don't remember seeing an attaching arraingement like this before. Perhaps if we see some others we'll find out.
I have seen these central twin prongs on good '25' oaks, but this one looks a bit suspect to me just because of the finish. There is a brand new batch of shiny fakes that can be seen regularly on eBay.de and other sites, and this reminds me of those. I'd pass, even though I'm not 100% it's no good. I just don't know.

Second, why clean it and remove it? You've diminished its value enormously.
