    Urgent Help on 1914 EK1

    Hello

Could I please ask your opinions of the the 1914 EK1, as shown in the attached photos, that I am thinking of buying. I think that it is original and ok, but I am also aware that the clamshell type screwbacks have been reproduced, so would welcome and value your opinions on this one.

    Many thanks in advance.

    Regards
    David

          mine I consider a 1939/1942 period ek2

based on what I see looking at the soldering .

              Hello

              Thanks for the replies

Yes Kay, the core looks pretty similar to your EK2s. I would agree that this one is probably one of the ones made after WW1, but when? 1920's? 1930s? 1940s?

What would be a reasonable price for this?

              Many thanks.

              Regards
              David

Probably late 30s, perhaps early 40s. What does it measure?

                  Hello

No idea on the measurements Don, as it's one I've seen for sale and am contemplating buying it, so haven't held it in my hand or had chance to measure it etc as yet.

                  Thanks.

                  Regards
                  David

I have an example like this. From what I can gather this is a Deumer made item. I think from the 30's. This is not a post 1939 demension cross. It is modelled on the size of the WW1 EKs. This clamshell or sunburst screwback has been seen on these private purchase pieces as seen here and also on a WW2 1939 series Deumer EK1. These I believe to be early 39 series screwbacks, similar to Shinkels in that they used old stock parts, in this case the clamshell device on a 39 series size frame. Like the Shinkels they were discontinued early for the more homogenous crosses that typified the 39 series. Unfortunatley, this sunburst design has also been seen on fakes, but I believe from the 39 series. So we have:

As shown- A private purchase 1914 EK1 with clamshell screwback from perhaps the 30's.

That being said, the pictures shown here aren't great, so better shots would help make a better determination.

The rear. I feel these were early versions using old hardware, but the larger 1939 frame, unlike Shinkels. They are unmarked.
