    When was this cross made?

    Hi:
Anybody know in what time frame these crosses were manufactured?
I also have this set with swords. They are maker marked the same.
    Thanks, John

I believe they were issued after Hindenburgs death as one of his final requests to honour WW1 soldiers .I think 1933. I imagine they were issued for a long time after that too. Ferg1.

These were the first awards of the Third Reich, issued in 1934 I believe. Known as the Hindenburg cross, although that is not the official name. These are Honor Crosses, made to honor not just veterans but anyone who aided in Germany's war effort in the First World war. They are available in Honor Cross for the Frontfighter, which is with swords, the one shown here for non combatants and one for next of kin or widows, which is like the one shown only painted black. These are very common and inexpensive, come with a variety of maker marks, and are sometimes seen cased. Award documents also came with these. The recipients apparently had to apply for them.

That Wikipedia article does seem to contradict itself in the statement:

            Eligibility: All Great War Combatants
Awarded for: "For Soldiers who Fought on the Front"

The acticle states that non combatants and next of kin were also eligible.

This is more accurate as far as what the three awards were and for whom they were intended-
