        Hi,

        s. 12cm K. is a designation of the Model 1880 heavy artillery canon.
        See
        http://www.lovettartillery.co/Develo...%20Kanone.html

        and

        http://www.lovettartillery.com/MAT_1...ne_Detail.html

So this might be a range calculator? I don't understand the crown 48. This suggests it was made in (18)48. But it might mean something else.

What are the units on the revolving scale?

        best regards,

        Michel

Hi Michel thanks for you links,it does not say what the scale is measured in but I have found some more markings,on the front it reads "Beim Einstellen Feder niederdrucken " and on the top "F.L.S."
          24
As I do not read German the wording is meaningless to me.In the second of the two pictures you link too the officer in the front left appears to be holding a very similar object. The numbers on the scale go upto 7300 would this be the range of a 12cm kanone? regards Roger

"Beim Einstellen Feder niederdrücken" means "to adjust press down the clip"

              Is there any optic inside?

Zeiss Jena Polte Magdeburg Sudenburg did fabrication of optic instruments also for military canons.

Hi Gerdan,no it has no optics according to Lovett artillery which Michel linked to it's an early non optic rangefinder for the s12cm cannon of 1880 the Gr marking is degrees of elevation and the other marking are range in meters. Thanks for the translation.Regards Roger
