Wonder if it was taken from -----in ------ 19-- ???

Got a book about them but it is all in old German from the time

I wonder if the Dr. Heuss was the same that became Deutchen Bundesprasident later. It does look like a cypher and not personal initials( engraving and layout are excellent) civil department not military.

As far as I know the later German Bundespräsident Prf. Dr. Theodor Heuss (* 1884 +
1963) never joined the Army. In 1905 he finished his studies with an doctorate at the university of Munich. During WWI for a certain time he lived in Constantinopel (Turkey) and later he was a journalist in Germany.

the cypher on the silver tray is from the Offizier-Reitschule in Paderborn (ORSP)

I think that it is a gift from the 6 officers to Major Paul Seiffert, Commander in Paderborn till September 1913, since October 1913 "Chef" of the Miltär-Reitinstitut in Hannover; last rank General der Kavallerie.

5 of them are officers (teacher) at this riding academy, v. Bredow could be at the academy "kommandiert zur Dienstleistung", to be attached to .../ to be assigned for duty with ...

I have translated the link to Seiffert, very very interesting, how the tray ended up in an estate sale auction in New Zealand is another mystery!

Now I see the resemblance to the Hanover crown.

Again, excellent tray and even nicer when you can trace it back to the organization and the members.

When looking at a monogram, the letter in the center normally represents the persons family name. Speedytop has already figured this one out. You can also see that the letter "S" is larger than the other letters, indicating that it is more important than the other letters. I've done lots of metal engraving and monograms are requested fairly often. Ammersee

I think your crown is the Kaisers 'Hohenzollen' crown? new pics added with plate next to an Imperial Bavarian Regimental stein, note the crown on the stein is simalar to the plate.
