    1870 Wiederholungsspange

Love these tiny little pieces. One of 854! Hope the photos help anyone trying to buy one. Get one now before the word is out how rare they are, but please get a good one.

Back. I think the attachment served one of two purposes. The prongs worked nicely on an already constructed mounted cross or ribbon bar and mine works great on a 'loose' cross. Don't get pissed Leo, but I'm putting this on your cross because it looks good.

For something so tiny notice the ridge although my photo is out of focus on the edge...

Nice piece Brian! Thanks for sharing...hope to get my hands on one of these one day. Have a line on a nice 1870 EK2 with oakleaves, so this would complete the set up!

        Cheers!

          Brian,
That is a very nice picture. The detail is sharp and the background really adds
to it. Can you tell me what kind of camera you use. My wife's small digital
just does not take good close ups at all.
          Thanks,
          Greg

            1870 Wiederholunasspange

Brian, I have one that my uncle gave to me back in the 70's. He brought it back from the war as a souvenier. It is mounted on a noncombatent ribbon with a miniature 1870 iron cross and a 25 year with oak leaves. I did not look at it in awhile but if memory serves me right the spange is maker marked and it is a solid piece like yours whereas the ribbon slides thru it for mounting. Some of them wrap around the ribbon and the sides are bent onto it for attachment. DEL

The ribbon that came with this I thought was just an add on but now I'm not so sure. The ribbon is long enough to allow for the spange to go through a buttonhole and down and around and sewn into a tunic. I wonder if this is how they could also have been worn on a uniform?

I have a Sony digital camera. I take the photos at 1600 by 1200 and then reduce them. The camera has a special setting for closeups. That's the real necessity.

                  Brian

Nice to see a wrap around the same as mine - this is still one of my favourite pieces (and I'm lucky enough to own a KC!!)

Here's some pics, although it was posted recently, so you may have seen them.

Still, it may as well reside in a thread with other WHS pictures.

And while we're on the subject - I'm desperate for a photo of one of these in wear......I've requested it before, maybe I'm just to new to attract the attention of the boys who are likely to have one, or maybe there just aren't any.

Can you help Brian? Rick V? Daniel? Doug?etc...

I too have looked for one in wear. Leo didn't make WWI so I don't have any photos of someone who made both wars.

Thank you guys for sharing your pieces, these bars are very nice and so rare!
I have never seen a real one I felt comfortable with for sale. Plenty of fakes appear on ebay but the real ones are like hens teeth.

                              Hi Brian,

here are some photos in wear. Not real photos, but scans from a militaria-magazine. I will scan the whole article(about this clasp) for you, when i have a bit more time. Sorry for the bad quality, but my scanner is going to give up.

                              best wishes,
                              Gerd

PS: You have a very nice Spange there. Beatiful pieces these are.

First: Generalleutnant Otto Graf von Schwerin
