Order of the Red Eagle Construction

The Prussian Order of the Crown (3rd and 4th class) has three pieces: An obverse medallion, a cross, and a reverse medallion. These pieces are held together by pin going through the side of the cross.

Is he Prussian Order of the Red Eagle (3rd and 4th class) constructed the same way?

    Regards

The 3rd class is always contructed the same way as i know.
the 4th is different by period and maker. There are some variants:

1.) Three pieces hold by a diagonal pin through the medaillon
2.) Three pieces, medaillons pressed into the cross or glued with Schelack
3.) Two pieces, the reverse medaillon produced in one part with the cross, the avers medaillon fixed with a pin, glue or pressed into the cross.

RAO will know much more about the construction ....

Thanks guys. It sounds like there is a lot of variation with the 4th Class Red Eagles. A couple of more specific questions.

I recently saw a Late Imperial (after 1900) Red Eagle that was only two pieces at an antique store described above as a "variant 3". It did not have a maker's mark on it. Does anyone have any idea who made this type of cross?

In my opinion, the most common Late Imperial Red Eagle 4th Class available for collectors is the Wagner. Are these usually the three piece decoration held together with a pin described as "variant 1" above?

Your input is appreciatetd. Thanks in advance.
