    Military chest

I bought this chest from a German auction house many years ago.
Anyone see any clues as to what kind of unit the owner, Jakob belonged to; 12th Company of what?
Unfortunately, I can't make out the line above the name, but one side has
K36 and the other 70. Also, any idea how old it is?
I would be grateful for any info that sheds light on what I have.

Thanks, Gerdan. I didn't know that, so that's a start.

i read somethimg like Nro (number 3) .......Kaiserjäger

so it seems to been Austrian. in 1914 existed 4 Tiroler Kaiserjäger-Regiments

            haynau,
Thank you for the additional info. When I told my wife about the responses, she told me something I didn't know, that the auction house had explained the owner was a soldier who had been sent to China during the Boxer Rebellion. Does that make sense within the context of the Kaiserjaeger-Regiment scenario? I'm sure you are right about the chest saying Kaiserjaeger (that line starts with K3 and then 1 word in between, which I can't read).
Were they involved in the Boxer Rebellion?

Sorry Nick, it took some time. As far as I know there were NO austrian infantry units combatting during the boxer-uprise only navy-units.

              regards

My parents were antique dealers for 40 plus years and sold many European trunks over the years, I would say the chest could date anywhere from the mid 19th century to the early 20th, If I had to guess I would say the box construction dates to the 1870s (but it certainly could have been used much later) so I would not rule out it being from an earlier formation.

I agree, I would date this box to the Franco-Prussian War period, not WW1. Very nice piece

Don't have any information on the box, but it would look good in my war room!
