SB EK1 opinions please

Hello guys , Id like to have your thoughts on this SB EK1 please .

Its a really heavy cross , marked with an 800 silver mark , the screw is marked with PM 800 and D.R.G.M. 653146 .

Hi Simon,
That is a nice looking cross but I think it might have an issue.
I might be wrong but I think that the Meybauer screwnut is not original
to the cross. Here is my thinking---------

The core details are not what I expect from a Meybauer. The core looks
moor like a "Fr" or "FR" core to me. Also, those PM marked Meybauer
nuts have been turning up on ebay lately. "I have always wondered why
there is a supply of nuts without crosses" Another thing, maybe it's just
because of the heavy cleaning and polishing to the reverse side but i would
expect to see some scratches on the frame to indicate the backplate has been
with the frame for 90 years.

The anti-spin pin is most likely a jeweller added item (nice touch)

Taking all this into account, I still like your cross.

Maybe someone will have a different opinion.

Hi,

Imo a recent "fantasy" piece. Post#4, the edge shot, is very telling. Imo a genuine 1914 EK2 (possibly Fr as Greg has already suggested) has been broken apart, the obverse frame and ground down core have then been combined with new-made fantasy "first class" screwback hardware.

Further, unlike some around here, I am NOT comfortable with all the loose Meybauer DRGM screwnuts available on eBay at the moment.

For me, the value of this example is $0.00, less than my valuable 2 cent opinion!

The screwnut on the left is the one from this cross , Jesse it dosen,t seem to bear any cast marks ... The Screw to the right is from a good Meybauer .

Well Mike that explains the terrible soldering job around the frame seam and also the tool marks to the reverse ... what a shameful waste of a good EK2 , cannibalised to create a Frankenstein .

The smaller one does appaear to have that mass of slight indents, which to me says modern manufacture. I have seen this on other non PM screwback fakes, where the screwback plate is a disc shape.
