    Gerd,

That was quite something interesting... strange that I didn't find it before!

You can always find interesting stuff from time to time... You just have to have patience!

    Ciao,

    Claudio

VET STATED TO ME THAT HE HAD TAKEN THIS OFF OF THE TUNIC OF A GERMAN GENERAL IN WW II
Either the vet or the seller is likely lying. No long-service, no Third Reich decorations. And who is wearing a Grosse Ordensschnalle on his tunic when captured? More likely the vet looted it.

Just so you know this came from my partner Bob Grant. It was indeed purchased on a hotel buy a couple of weeks ago.
        Best Wishes,
        Bob

Probably saw some pips on a shoulderboard and assumed that they meant the wearer was a general.. They're sorta like stars, right?

In my experience vets always think their stuff came from a general or SS man!

I followed the bar with the intent on taking a shot. I estimated the individual values at about $650-750 range then watched the bar go over $1k towards $1200 and lost interest. I am not sure if the 'General' angle was the motivater or the combination of Turk and colonial medals was the hook. Whatever, nice bars are not 'market value' much anymore. Which brings me to the "Nimmergut affect". IMO. Nimmergut is at best, a single market value source, rarely reflecting true market values (either too high or sonetimes ridiculously low) and considering how the values are arrived at, questionablly accurate. However, I see few buyers or sellers at shows who don't refer to it. Usually, sellers are above the book and buyers seek below values. Any other opinions on the impact of Nimmergut on the medals market? I consider it a bane on the collecting market.

I wish somebody had copy/pasted the medal bar...

                ??????? !!!!!!!!!

because all I see now clicking on that link is about 8 scans of a freakin' two dollar US canvas bag, a two dollar US gasmask, a set of 2 dollar GI suspenders, and some sort of cutlass.

Of medal bars there be no scans at all.

picture medal bar, front and back

                  Hi Rick,

Fortunately I saved the scans of the above-mentioned medal bar.

                  Here it is...

                  Ciao,

Thanks Claudio! That would certainly have stimulated considerable discussion here, since I can think of several possible scenarios to explain the extremely interesting combination, which I will now not bother to hunt down. A major clue might come from the engraved unofficial looking (cut down sabers?) bar on the Imtiaz medal, for instance.

I suppose the seller couldn't care less, having received a wildly over the top selling price without US talking it up.

And I am STILL trying to come up with "good" reasons why ANY seller should remove AND REPLACE the scan of a sold item. But I can't think of any!

That is very odd because who would go to all of that effort to remove the pictures of a supposedly perfect medal bar? Make me wonder what type of joint is being run...

Guys, guys, you are so easily confused... You obviously never sold on Ebay. If a seller has limited space on his server, he only posts several photos at a time. Since the medal bar sold, he replaced it with other photos. In other words, the links that used to point to the medal bar now point to other photos and what you are seeing there are items he is selling on Ebay RIGHT NOW. Get it?

paddywhack, yes, it is possible! It is the rarest type of EKII. The Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse für Kriegsverdienste in der Heimat (non-combatant EK for war merits at home -> awarded on the combatant ribbon). Only 6855 of these were awarded.

                            Here is another one:
