    Prinzengrösse Medal bar !!!!

    Dear Imperialoids,

I am proud to present my latest acquisition; a half-sized "sog. Prinzengrösse" medal bar, cased!, with RAO 4. Kl. mit Krone, KO 4. Kl. und Centenar-Medaille 1897, which I got it from Detlev. Unfortunately Detlev doesn't sell too much Imperial medals, but sometimes you can definetely find some true treasures. I can't even remember to have seen ever a similar Prinzengrösse bar for sale in my last 15-20 collecting years, not to speak about the rarity of such a case. I can only think that some officers of the aristocracy or from the ruling nobility could wear such custom made Prinzengrösse medal bars!

Your comment are most welcome! I put a EK 1. Kl. next to the bar for comparison's sake.

    Enjoy!

    Ciao,

    Claudio

What a little beauty! And vastly underrated in the collectring world.

              Claudio: What a Little JEWEL!!!!!!!!

Is it on blue backing? A combination like that suggests a serving naval officer... though I've never seen a photo of a MINI medal bar being worn on the "monkey" mess dress tunic.

Thank you guys for your nice words. It is truly a little gem. It is not exagerated to say that such a combination in Prinzengrösse size as medal bar is muuuuuuuuuuuuuch scarcer than a "sexy" Knight Cross of the Iron Cross 1939!

For Rick, I am enclosing a photo of the reverse of the bar. I am sorry... no Naval officer... red backing! Or maybe I could also be... Impossible to know or to research, I guess....

                Ciao,

                Claudio

No, I've seen naval bars with the "traditional" red backing. I can't imagine any form of dress other than ?? the "monkey jacket" mess dress of the navy... imitating British practice... where a mini medal bar like this MIGHT have been worn by a serving officer.

                  And if it WAS navy...

In the end, there can be only one:

(No, NOT Arizona U.S. Senator John McCain! )

                    Excellent bar!

Excellent bar Claudio! I tried to order it as well and I'm glad it was you who beat me to the punch! 100% correct, P-G sized bars are even rarer than the miniature (16mm sized) medal bars!

What a beautiful bar the owner didn't dress up with a bunch of meaningless vanity metal! Just beautiful.

This is really a very nice and very rare bar, Claudio. Congrats!
The Centenary-medal seems to be a normal sized one, or?
                        best wishes,
                        Gerd

Thanks Brian and Rick (Stogie) for your nice comment.

Gerd, the Centenar-Medaille is also definately Prinzengrösse size....

                          Ciao,
