Finally Project Completed: Manfred von Richthofen Ordenskissen

I have posted this in some other Forums. But I want to share it here too.

Finally, after many, many years (almost 20), I have completed this project. One day I thought it would be cool to replicate Manfred von Richthofen’s Ordenskissen, and it all begun with an EK II. I acquired piece by piece individually without ever destroying or dismantling any existing bar. Some pieces were easy to find, but very expensive. Others were not that expensive, but very hard to find, at least for me. Most awards are, to the best of my knowledge, genuine.

    Some notes:

1.The ribbon bar is obviously a reproduction. I have seen many around.
2.The Pour le Merite is post 1918.
    3. RAO not original.
4.I have displayed here a Bavarian MVO 4th class with crown and swords because one can see a crowned MVO on MvR ‘s original Ordenskissen . It was thought for many years that MvR had a MVO 3rd class with crown and swords. However, there is no evidence that MvR received the MVO 3rd or the MVO 4th with crown. It is currently maintained that MVR received a 4th class with swords only, with no crown. However, how could we explain the crowned MVO on MvR’s original Ordenskissen?

MvR's original orders and medals as displayed on his funeral services in Berlin in 1925

Sure! Give me time to take some pictures.......

I don’t have photos of everything. However, here are some pictures.

      I definitely need a 3D scanner!

Very very nice. A very nice array of enamel there.

Reminds me of a gentleman that assembled all the medals and had them professionally mounted. They looked quite impressive. Here is a pic of that remounted bar. Steve

Marvellous! That really makes for a display that has the "WOW!" factor. Congratulations!

                        Nice Collection

                        gmu,
I can tell you the Turk Star and Prussian Pilot and Observer are spot on. Well done!
Can't really make out the other awards as they are too small, but they all look original to me. Most impressive is how the color jumps out at you in relation to the B&W photo, which can often remove us from the history. Wonderful and thoughtful project...
