    Interesting photo

    Hello All,

Another eBay find.... what a great photo !

Interesting the way that he is wearing the Saxon medals over precidence of the Prussian ones..... By way of the tunic.. if memory serves... this is a Saxon General's tunic... which the only difference from the Prussian is the buttons....

And I'm pretty sure that this one was taken in the early 20th Century and not in some back yard garden

    (see... I'm a fast learner !)

    Cheers

    It's because...

.. he's a Saxon! Saxons always wore their native awards over Prussians. Note that on his medal bar: Saxon AOR RK1wX, then the 1870 EK2, then a Saxon War Cross from 1866, then a Saxon 25 Year long service, then the Prussian stuff...

Star light, star bright, the first nine stars I see tonight...

What are all of those stars for?

        General der Infanterie

Max Freiherr von Hausen is still pictured as a General der Infanterie in this photograph. The then Saxon Minister of War was promoted to Generaloberst on the 17th of December 1910.

Although not visible in this image there were a couple of other major differences in the model of the tunic besides the buttons which Mark has already mentioned. The Saxon general officers' tunics were piped along the lower edges of the skirt and the pocket flaps were of the straight edged Saxon pattern with just two buttons.

          Hey Glenn,

I didn't know about the skirt piping.. thank you !........

But.... You mention pocket flaps..... are you saying the Saxons had pockets on their Parade tunics ... the Prussians did not.. they had no outside pockets on this style tunic?

In either case... I would still love to have one of these in the collection

...... I prefer the pre 1910 style parade tunic over the later model...

          Cheers

            Pocket Flaps

            Mark,

I am referring to the decorative piped flaps on the rear of the tunic skirt. The Prussian "flaps" were of the "scalloped" variety with three buttons whereas the Saxons were straight with two buttons.

            Regards
            Glenn
