    Aaaaaaarrrrggghhhh !!!!!

For those who read the thread about splitting groups up...
I just recieved a WW1 doc group to a pioneer Leutnant... Wound badge, Hindenburg cross... and a super EK1 doc, a oversized sheet of paper saying "In the name of the Kaiser I award you the EK1...and goes on for a full page to say how he had always been there, leading fighting patrols, defending with minnewerfers, mentions specific actions and is signed by the Div General (unusual rank to sign a WW1 EK doc)..
Of course, I wished I had his EK2 doc as well to complete the group.
So I go to my list (pictured below) and enter it under 303 Pioneer komp. I see I have another doc to the same unit, so I dig it out to see if the signature is that of Lt Stodtmeister (the guy who the group belongs to)... unfortunately not.
But as I pack the doc away I look at the name of the recipient... Lt Stodtmeister !!!!!!!!!
    Group reunited !!
Below for your pleasure (okay, more for my pleasure, I love looking at the list) are my EK docs.
I dabble in many other collecting fields, but this is my only really systematic one.
If you have any docs to trade, you know where to come ;-)

    That's all???

    Adam

...well I picked up an MM with a nice citation so I don't feel quite as inadequate as I might otherwise...nice collection there, Chris. Will be sure to let you know if anything for you shows up on my end.

That's your "Three" this month, Chris (Hoch und D, Scotland the B... now this)...

You have either been preternaturally Good and Pure lately, hence explaining this streak of being smiled upon by The Big Collector, or... you have sold your soul to the devil, like François did!

Cough up the scans--and we want to know what he was doing in 1935, too. The only Stodtmeister I find as a regular was a Zahlmeister.

High in his citation was fighting on hill 60 from mid to end november 1916,
        Just found this...

Hill 60 is a slight hill alongside the railway line near Ypres which had a german bunker on top until 1916. The hill was strategically important to both sides, and all efforts by the British to take it had proved costly in lives and had failed.

In the months following the great May battles of 1915, the main struggle went on underground. Deep mining began in August 1915 by 175th Tunnelling Company from an entrance in the bank of the railway cutting some 220 yards behind the British front line. It was to pass 90 feet below the surface. In April 1916 the 3rd Canadian Tunnelling Company took over and mines were commenced on the Caterpillar as well. After a long underground struggle between the miners of both sides, the Hill 60 gallery was finished in July 1916 and charged with 53,500 lbs of high explosive. In October, the gallery under the Caterpillar (the area on the other side of the railway line near to the road) was also completed and 70,000 lbs of explosive was placed there. In order to achieve this, the German main gallery had to be destroyed by a camouflet.

In November 1916 the Ist Australian Tunnelling Company took over the maintenance of these mines. This entailed endless fighting above and below ground to keep the enemy from discovering the galleries and charges.

The two mines were to be the most northerly in the long chain of twenty-four mines which were being prepared for the attack on the Messines Ridge. In the event only nineteen were blown. It was at 3.10 a. m. precisely on June 7, 1917 that these exploded with a tremendous shock, similar to that of an earthquake. It was felt even in London and other places in England.

So Stodtmeister was a tunnel rat as well, being a pioneer as well...
        I love this group....

Chris what can you tell me about the doc from the 4 Ersatz Regt? I have a couple from the 4 Reserve Ersatz Regiment. Is this the same?
What i have is an EK II 1914 doc, and the Ranglisteauszug and Hohenzollern House Order KC with Swords to a Ltn.
            Just curious.

              Hi Dan,
              here it is,
It is on a doc made for the 4th ersatz division.
I have this doc in 3 variations and hammelmann shows some more, the div must have had a very active print shop.
As coincidence would have it, The EK2 doc to the pioneer Lt is also one of these..... same doc, just different print face.

                hill 60

                Hello,

Nice docs. you have there chris, regarding Hill 60 , this small hill is at the village of Zillebeke ( about 5 km from Ypres ) today ( twice in a month i drive besides it => for the work ), the hill is kept as a remembrance and stil has the the damaged appearance as it once did ( full of shell holes, etc ... ) only today it is rather peacefull +> besides there is a small museum ( however should we name it so ? , it is rather a collection of old iron etc ... and is not been looked after very wel => private owner who's only purpose is to make a quick buck ( $ ) out of ( Englisch ) tourists => i wil try to get my hands on a digital camera and make some shots of it and post them later on.

It is nice to see that once split up groupings are comming togheter again ( due to coincidence ? )

                Greetings,
