    iron cros 1 e class 1914 question

    Hello,

I recently obtained a EK 1 1914 , my question now is => where these ever produced out of 1 piece ? , this piece is made out of one pice and is lackered ( the normal Iron core !! ) black , on the pin it bears a stamp 800 ( silvercontent ) , it is really very nice made and is non magnetic ( so i assume its completely made out of silver ).

Im sorry i have no pictures from this one but i wil try to let it scanned real soon.

Have you guys ever seen such a EK 1 ?

    Greetings,

I have a one piece 1914 EK1 which I believe is real, based on the pin and catch assembly, the high detail on the obverse, and signs of REAL age and use. The lacquer is peeling.

BUT.....there are many one piece fake EK's being sold now on eBay, Epier, and at shows. These are very well made, and even show a convincing fake aging. They are also a bit thicker than most original one or three piece EK's. The metal does not look quite right--more like a stainless alloy than real silver. I've seen several coming out of Latvia marked 800 or 900. Post a photo and I'm sure you'll get opinions on yours.

      iron cross 1 e class

Thanks Doug for the very fast reply +> it shows very nice detail ( at least for me ) on the front , it has some more rounded edges at the crosses arms => i assume when it would be a fake these would be sharp edges.

The laquer is also pealing a little on the front ( especially the higher parts +> crown, the date 1914 and on the Monogram " W " )

The reverse has a needle like can be found on very early Iron crosses 1 e class period 1939 but is very delicate made and certainly thinner ( look as a example to my website => unde rthe section Iron crosses , i have a IC 1 e class with brass core , the needle is very similar only thinner made. )

The catch is shows a lightly shining messing kind of colour underneath ?

Could this be a private purchase item ? , im not really a imperial collector but have obtained it with some other goodies and didnt actually pay for it

Doug can you mail me pictures of yours for comparison ? + eventual weights when possible ?

        Hi,

here are pics of the two (brass made) EKI 1914 from my collection. I have no doubt that they are original.

The first one is one-piece brass and vaulted:

The second one is flat and one-piece brass too:

And this one I've seen on Helmut Weitzes Website for sale. It is completely the same manufacturing, so I am sure it is original:

Here's my one piece 1914 EK1. It measures 43 mm. Sorry, I don't have a good scale handy. Hope this helps.
