1870 EK2 with Oakleaves Variation?

I was watching the other thread on an EK2 in the hopes of seeing one like the one from my collection. It is magnetic and a full size EK2. Haven't got the tape out for measurments, but placed it by one on a bar for size comparison. Three piece construction and as you can see from the rusting, an iron core. The ribbon is fragile and the oakleaves have "always" been there. The attaching ring is brass. Has anyone else seen one like this

Can you get STRAIGHT on shots of the dates and crowns please. It's weird, the 0 on the 1870 is bloated on the right side.

All I can add is that I have never seen an example such as this, which in itself is odd as there is a fairly finite group of 1870 EK2's that are considered 'real and accepted', and a similar group of 'known fakes'.

There are elements such as the ribbon and 25 device and the patina that give this cross some real credence.... but what with the malformed dates and 'W', pebbled core and strange eye-ring attachment, I don't see a degree of quality here that would convince me this was a period cross, but that is simply a personal observation.

It would not be one I would target.

Here is another 1870 EK2 that was not a known fake, and not a known original. I agree with the consensus reached at the end of that thread, and think it could apply to yours as well. Perhaps not the same process, but the same idea.

I do not know this type of cross , but as it does neither match the awarded series nor the known fakes, and while it does feel period, it is most likely an old replacement cross. Jubilee era is likely, given the oaks.

looks like somebody was trying to mes up the crown and the W and the 1870.

with some tool,,,

is this maybe a 1914 / 1939 core ,,,reworked as 1870 ?

Don that might be it, I was thinking it was the same core as ours except for some weirdness, and that might be it. It does feel period. I'm also thinking double struck, same core as the original. Double strikes and seconds sold on the cheap to a framer?
