... on a naval cap tally.
Is it a Uboot guy? What are the possibilities? On the photo you cant see around his head.
And..... a WW1 machine gun crew with "16" on the shoulder...is this 16th Inf Regt or are there other possibilities ?

Could also be "Torpedob..." Probably more likely that, since those were definitely organized as Half Flotillas, and while I'm not sure, off the top of my head I'd say submarines were only in full Flotillas (maybe not for training units).

16 could be the regular regiment, reserve regiment, or Landwehr regiment.

There were German personnel for the couple of Turkish torpedo boat units as well. Since he's not wearing a fez, either it's his old unit hat anyway, or worn after returning home.

(You DO know about the Prize for whoever first turns up a clear, sharp, direct, and provable photo of a BB&Co (or any other identifiable maker) star being worn during the war, right? )
