    1870 Godet-core EK2

    Hi all,

I've taken a recent interest in Godet decorations. For one thing, they're just beautiful. I saw this 1870 EK2 and suspect it's a genuine Godet-core example. It seems a good match to others I've seen posted here on the WAF, but the "over-and-under" 8 gives me slight pause as it's also used on the "9th bead" fakes. Am I correct that this is a good Godet? Is the "over-and-under" normal to this degree?

Thank you all for your help and opinions.
    Trevor

    Trevor,
This style cross is attributed to Godet and is commonly called
the "short 7" core. Do a search for "short 7" and you will see
    lots of discussions about them.

I don't have any issues with the one you posted, in fact I have one
that could almost be it's twin. But read the different threads and judge
    for yourself.

Thanks, Greg. Great patina on this one, right?

Can you post a photo of yours? To feed my Godet addiction until I can afford one...

An over under 8 is not a sign for all to be fake. Fakes come in all forms, but not all over unders are fake.

But this cross, the reverse details are incredibly weak. Unless the iron under the paint is rusted, the lack of details cause me concern. It would be incredibly hard to believe Godet could make a cross this poorly.

Great looking crosses. The repair makes it even better.

Doesn't Tony the Tiger1 have a Godet 1870? If I remember it's pretty nice... The Obverse shot would fit in this thread nicely.

Then again what doesn't Tony have...
