The finish is quite odd. Not the "chocolate" over bronze I'd like to see. And the very strange coke bottle pin disturbs me.

      Definitely post-1918.

Thanks. Are there any fakes around and which types?

Keep in mind that "fake" is a loaded word. In looking at the pin and the dimensions of the cross, my first thought was "1930s". That could easily make it a legitimate replacement piece, and not a fake (albeit worth less than an original WW1 piece).

I agree with Dave. I too think there is a distinction to be made between a pre-June 1945 replacement piece and something made after WW2.

The obverse detail is quite faithful, though the metal and finish are not. We've had a NUMBER of threads on these now, so doing a "search" will bring up numerous scans.

No doubt including this one. But just so it is close to the reverse scan above-- note the BRONZE which was chemically finished in CHOCOLATE color--and MEANT to be that color (idiots who scrub this off to make them "shiny" should have... things... done to them! ) And every one of these I have seen has had this straight type pin. Anything else is post 1918:

Jens, here's a couple of shots of my KVK1 for comparison. Unfortunatly the flash light has made the colour look brighter than it really is.

              Obverse.

                Reverse, with the straight pin.

Nice, it looks nearly like this one. This has also the same front as the one in question above. Maybe the same maker who made them during WWI and also in the 30s with the same die but with another pin:

Just arrived. I think this one was made in the 30s due the type of the pinback but the front is exactly the same like my other KVK below. Maybe the same maker who made these crosses in WWI and later?
