    A Couple of new pictures

here are a couple of new things that arrived in the post.
The first one is a Photograph that was removed from a photoalbum of life in a trench

As you can see there looks to be little danger as one of the men is on lip of the trench
And the second one is a postcard of a machine gun troup.I have incresed the size of hte group of men in the middle as one of them seems to have a badge of some description on his sleeve.Could this be a machine gun badge?

    Close up

and i have scanned the back of the postcard in a negative way as it makes it easier to read.

Hope you enjoy looking at these

I try to write down the German text from the back of the potcard:

    Frankreich 28.8.17

    Liebe Schwester,

Anbei eine Photographie zum Andenken an den M. G. Kursus in Rumigny (a French town in the Somme area).
Die herzlichsten Grüße sendet Dir Dein Bruder Hans.
    Auf Wiedersehn.

        Hi David,

The first picture looks to me as though it may have been taken during training(?). As you say, they don't seem concerned about any danger and there's no sign of shelling based on the trees and foliage all around. It looks more like a berm than a trench proper.

Your second photo does indeed show an MG sleeve badge. The sign is a nice touch, "In memory of our training period in machine gun school".

The two soldiers with their left sleeves showing in the middle both wear the machinegun sharpshooter badge

            Hi Don,

I only see an MG badge on the center soldier of the three standing above the sign. Where's the other one? If you mean the soldier on the right in the group of those three, I think you're just looking at spot or something on the photo. "Where's Waldo" for collectors
