    EK1 Opinions wanted

    Hey guys,

I've had this EK1 for about 10 years now. Any opinions on it? Is it a post-WWI issue cross? Thanks for your help!

Certainly a 57er issue. Is the core magentic? I like it anyway.

Yes, it is magnetic. Are you saying post WWII?

          Definately post WW2. A nice early 57er.

I should say 57 type Imperial cross. It was not just WW2 vets that wanted replacement awards.

This is a legitimate part of the history of the Iron Cross. The end of WW2 does not have any bearing on the 1914 series. WW1 vets were around in the 50s and 60s and there must have been some demand for replacement crosses. These aren't even that common. Keep it as a representative of an EK collection. It's not a fake. It's a nice cross. I have one in my collection.

The strange thing is, some of the 57er guys don't seem to get it. What you have said is correct Steve, a real cross, and collectable.

Well, I haven't looked there, but maybe they did get it well. It actually is not proper to talk about a "57 issue" as the 57 refers to a German law from 1957 that changed most WW2 awards and legalized a new form. to be worn. The 1914 EK has not been changed in its design, so it is actually wrong to talk about a "57 issue". But right it is: that cross has been procduced at the same time and by the same maker(s) as the 57 issues for vets and was bought and worn by vets, too.

Can you share with everyone why this is a post WWII EK? Think it would be helpful to new and old collectors alike! Mike
