    25 Anniversary Eichenlaub....comments?

Any opinions on this 25 yr eichenlaub?

I am looking for one to add to my 1870 EK2 and 1914 Weiderholungspange collection.

It looks like Gordons' "Iron Cross 39" picture (P 28) but the 5 is a wee bit different.

This is offered by a dealer, so have no further pics to date.

I don't yet know what the 'gunk' on the right leaf is......

    Thanks gentlemen..........

    Hi Biro,

IMO this set of OAKs looks very much like the one at the top of page 147
    of "The Iron Time".

I am no expert on these and it would be nice to have Brian or Rick give
    there opinions.

Depending on the price, I would maybe take a chance on them.

One of the Oaks that I have has some gunk growing on it as well. If
anybody has a good way of cleaning it off please let me know.

    Greg

        my humble opinion

IMHO these pieces with the blocky numerals are no good. I think a LOT of people out there will probably disagree with me, and they may be right. I have seen this type mounted on 1870 crosses that I felt were fakes, and that's where I get my conclusion. It may be that there were some originals made with this type of numerals, and that fakers just copied them exactly, so it's hard to make a blanket statement that all these types are wrong.

On the other hand, I have seen fakes sold out of Latvia on Ebay that have more ornate numerals, so the style of the numerals is hardly the litmus test of originality. If you decide to buy them, make sure you're not paying more than the going market price - that way if you find out later you were wrong, you will at least minimize your losses.

        ... that's my two bits.
