    Medal Bar

    Gentlemen -

I have a question related to the attached image(s). Apart from the 36 Olympic award, the House Oder of the White Falcon KC 2nd Class (second from left) is probably the only other award which might allow me to find out the individual who owned this item. Are there any rangliste for the White Falcon award?

Just to make go guys a wee bit jealous, I obtained this piece back in my high school days from a friend. I traded him three (3) baseball cards, which are still only worth about 25 cents apiece. And yes, he's still a friend.

    Many thanks

        Disappointing news I'm afraid:

Details on the exact date for his highest award, the specific date and reason for his death won't be out probably until they get to his letter in the Army Generals' biographies-- about 6 more years at this rate.

The WW1 awards combination is quite distinctive, and since he was a Reichsheer officer, Easy As Pie.

Rudolf Schrader was born 29 May 1890 in Jena

Entered the army with an Abitur as an officer candidate Spring of 1909

Commissioned 22.8.10 (vorpatentiert to seniority 22.8.08 D9d) in Telegraph Battalion 3.

When WW1 started he was in the new Telegraph Battalion 5

        Oberleutnant 25.2.15 M25m
Hauptmann 27.1.18 G3g, Reichsheer seniority same date #10

His other award was a WW1 Iron Cross 1st Class.

Battalion signals officer and signals officer in the Reichswehr Ministry

        Major after 1928
        Oberstleutnant 1.7.34
        Oberst 1.8.36 #17

Commander of Signals Troops, Wehrkreis VII (Bavaria) 1.10.35
Higher Signals Officer "5" (Vienna) 1.4.38

Presumably got the Olympics Decoration for making sure the Winter Games phones worked, or something!

Higher Signals Officer, Army Group "C" 1 September 1939

        Generalmajor 1.7.40
        Generalleutnant 1 July 1942 #4

        Commander, Army Signals School 1.3.40
Higher Signals Officer, Military Government, France 1940
back as Higher Signals Officer, Army Group "C" again 1.4.41

Higher Signals Officer, Army Group "North" 1.6.41-Fall 1944

so he would also have had the 1941/42 East Medal, and this medal bar predates summer of 1942---

NOTE: It is unfortunately a common inexcusable act of VANDALISM for jerks and crooks to ram EK2 Spangen onto original groups. Rather than "dressing them up," the unrepairable damage RUINS them. Such low lie scum deserve only to be dropped into vats of ravenous leeches. However, SOME recipients actually DID receive and WEAR full size Spangen as on this bar. Whether General Schrader did or whether someone added this Spange, we may never be able to tell. But under NO circumstances should any idiot wreck a good, original, and traceable bar by ADDING a Spange.

        There, that felt good!

Last command I know about was as Higher Signals Officer, Army Group "D" end of 1944.

        Schrader received the

German Cross in SILVER 25 March 1943 and

Knight's Cross of the War Merit Cross with Swords... "January 1944."

Committed suicide 1945 as a U.S. POW in Wiesbaden hospital. A technical officer like him was virtually guaranteed NOT to have committed war crimes, so avoiding prosecution cannot have motivated him. Maybe he was just "sad" that his Führer was No More. Or they could have been going to turn him over to the French, though, again, he should have been under no capital charges.

        That's what I've got.

Hehehe, Rolf you have a great sense you humor...I'll call my friend tomorrow

          Rick-

What can I say other than you made my week! Seek and though shalt find. Many many thanks for the information/ time. I've actually been sitting (figuratively) on this piece for some time and have never pursued the background of the individual. As far as the spange to the EK2 is concerned it was always on the bar as far as I can tell. The info. I have from my friend was that his grandfather had brought back the piece during the war.

Wow, I'm still overjoyed by your info. .

          Thanks again.

                      Hi Jeremy,

what a beautiful bar - it must take part in my "General bars" thread.

                      Hi Rick,

maybe sometimes the bar find the way to the right place.....

                      What do you mean, Jeremy????

Oh, I forgot - Rick, what do you say about the Slesian Eagle at this bar????

The Frontkämpferkreuz is the typical "G&S" for general-bars....

                            Hi Rick/all

Trick or Treaters indeed. Time to go into witness protection

Not to mention I've received numerous emails for a trade of four baseball cards, hmmmmm......I guess the bar has appreciated in value.

Werner, I'd be glad to have you use the bar in your "Generlas Bar" tread. Would you like me to drop in some images???

                            Jeremy
