Iron Cross with extra hooks - very nice!

I got this nice Iron Cross yesterday - look at the 2 extra hooks to hold it at the uniform. The rear is stamped "Silber".

That was a good idea so the cross would not snag. The only one I've ever owned was a Godet marked one with long thin prongs on the lateral arms, all battered and resoldered. I guess that clumsy wearer NEEDED the "extra security!"

Interesting.. I've seen this on a few 1870 EK1s, but never on a 14' one. A great find, mate!

A very nice, early war piece,

            it also appears slightly vaulted?

                Hello fellows,

thank you for your replys on my Iron Cross.

Dez, you are right - the cross is slightly vaulted.

And it has a thick silver rear. I heard that this cross may have been produced in Austria.

                Best wishes

                Joerg

I believe S. Previtera mentions in the Iron Time that the rounded corners as shown on your cross are typical of Rothe (Vienna). I've also been told that the mark "silber" was used a lot by Bavarian jewelers on EK's.
