    Colonial Gouvernors, Leibbinde of

    Dear Imperially Afflicted,

I hope you will allow a stray from the "buckles" forum to ask a question in these hallowed halls. I am seeking help from the Colonial Specialists. It seems that Gouverneurs of Colonies got their very own full dress in 1908, including a "brocade belt" (this is American-speek), described as "Leibgurt von goldener Tresse in der Art der Feldbinde, Schloß mit Reichsadler".

What my heart is crying out for is a contemporary picture of a gov. actually wearing one, and possibly a picture of the thing itself.

    Thank you in advance!

The only one I could find, but not good detail. This is a 1912 photo of Dr. Albert Heinrich Schnee, Governor of German East Africa from 1912 to 1918, inspecting the Schutztruppen.

Thanks, Dave. While there's no real detail, your pic does show that the Leibbinde was made and worn ( as opposed to just being something regulations prescribed), which is very valuable for me in its own right. Thanks again!

The only photos I could find (all Governors in Africa, 1890s on) were horrible quality, obviously reprinted from things like period rotogravure magazines. And all wearing NO belt.

The only one I could find of Schnee was him and von Lettow-Vorbeck back in Berlin in 1919-- and both were wearing ordinary Schutztruppen enlisted ranks belts, evn though Schnee was in his weird "Männer Hinter Blätter" bullion foliage encrusted tunic.

The closest any of us have come to Imperial governors are Bernhard's documents group to a Provincial Governer in East Africa and my ST SWA Oberstleutnant boards.

        Hen's teeth, anyone?

          Ji all,

I thought this wasn't gonna be easy. Thank you for taking the trouble.

          Best regards,
