Order of the crown medal ribbon

I was looking at these two order of the crown medals.

Are the ribbons too dark blue? I'm not sure if a lighter blue ribbon (cornflower blue) is appropriate or if this is the correct shade. Please let me know what you think.

    Regards

    Carl,

I too have one of these with no Ribbon...alas, we're both going to be fighting for the same piece of cloth.

    Cheers.

      Hi Carl,

normally you need the typical "cornflower-blue" ribbon as you said... here it looks a bit dark - but the picture must not show 100% the real colour..... ask the seller how blue is the blue

      cheers

This is an interesting and very technical question. To it, I would like to offer two observations.

First, keep in mind that the same color is used in all classes of the order. I mention this because we frequently see third and fourth class crosses singly and on medal bars. Medal bar examples show the degree to which these ribbons tended to fade - even to the point where they are sometimes (on ribbon bars) confused with the much lighter ribbon of the Württemberg Friedrichs Order.

Second, to the untrained eye, this ribbon is virtually indistinguishable from the Prussian plain blue long service ribbon. However, Hessenthal/Schreiber describes the Crown Order ribbon as “hellkornblumenblau” and the long service ribbon as “dunkelblau”. Exactly what the difference is, I do not know.

I hope that this information is somewhat helpful.

        Regards,

        Wild Card

          Hi,

Wild Card: "Second, to the untrained eye, this ribbon is virtually indistinguishable from the Prussian plain blue long service ribbon"

It is distunguishable, cornflower blue it is much brighter.

Please compare, second row, cornflower blue and dark blue:

But the color in a picture is elusive.

Good information Uwe. Actually the cornflower blue which is shown on the chart is what I associate with the Crown Order. If you go for an even lighter shade of this (hellkornblumenblau), we are now really approaching the Friedrichs Order ribbon and the difference with the long service decorations would be even greater. Unfortunately, Imperial German ribbon charts seldom make this distinction.

Also keep in mind, my friend, that you have an advantage over me in these matters - a much younger set of eyes!

            Best wishes,

            Wild Card

              Hi Wild Card,

"...a much younger set of eyes!"

              Are you sure?
