    Iron Cross Literature

I am interested in the Iron Cross but really only know what I have read on line. I am looking at a copy of "The Iron Cross: A History 1813-1957."

    Anyone read it? Recommend it?

I am looking at this copy on ebay http://cgi.ebay.ca/German-Iron-Cross...3A1|240%3A1318

I am not sure I should bid or not.

It's not a bad book for a bit of light reading. It gives a brief history and shows examples from all eras. I like it and if you can get it for a reasonable price I would say go for it.

It was a good book for its time but there are others out there that go more into dtail if that is what you are looking for.

          Hello Krieg,

While I am not an Iron Cross collector, I have found Steve Previtera’s book
“The Iron Time” enjoyable and useful.

          Regards,

            Hello,

I would like to add to the EK literature this book, published some years ago, but in my opinion, still a precious work:

Friedhelm Heyde: "Preussen-Sammlung Max Aurich - das Eisernes Kreuz 1813.1870.1914" Osnabrück, Biblio Verlag, 1980.

It's still possible to find it at specialized dealers or auctions or at militaria shows, both in Europe and overseas.

It's a bit too serious: no lavish colour plates, no luxury; only data, data and data, plus interesting pictures.

            Best wishes,

            Elmar Lang
