                Yes , looks like the CD 800 core to me.
                I am sure this would have had a backplate. Too bad it is missing
                as CD800 screwbacks are not real common.

                  I don't understand, was the missing back plate an anti-rotation device or something? That doesn't really make sense as obviously two screw-posts wouldn't allow it to rotate, but what was it for?

                    The backplate would have been a disc with two holes for the posts and many small holes around the perimeter. The disc itself was sewn to the inside of the tunic through the small holes and remained in place there. That way the cross could be removed and replaced easily in the exact same place.

                      This way the tunic could be cleaned and replacement of the cross would be right back where it was removed from. I'm sure I saw one of these round back plates with the small holes around the edge in a posting here of a bunch of different EKI's. Here is a link to the EKI's with the round backing plate belonging to Rich G, The EKI is on the left side midway down of the 1st picture

                          I will post a better rear shot of mine at the weekend. Mine does not have hexagon nuts but 2 domes.
